Our UKAT Paid Teaching Internship gives undergraduate and postgraduate students a valuable opportunity to experience life in a secondary school and explore whether a career in teaching is right for them. Interns are employed for a short, 3 week, structured placement that builds practical insight, develops key professional skills, and supports progression towards teacher training.

Our next UKAT Teaching Internship runs from TBC and applicants must be able to attend every day of the programme.. Expressions of interest open later this month, Interns are paid £455 per week throughout the placement, in line with the national, government funded scheme.

What does a UKAT Teaching Internship look like?

Over three weeks, interns are fully immersed in both of our two UKAT secondary school settings, offering you the chance to gain both a Grammar School and fully Comprehensive school experience. The programme includes lesson observations, supporting students in small groups, working alongside experienced teachers, and participating in professional development sessions. Each intern is supported by a mentor who helps them reflect on their experience and prepare for potential progression into initial teacher training.

What are the teaching internship requirements?

Applicants must be studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a subject relevant to teaching and be in their second year of study or beyond. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be available for the full duration of the internship.

How can you apply for a teaching internship?

Applications open later this month and candidates can complete an application form outlining their interest in teaching. Shortlisted applicants are invited to interview and to complete some initial subject related supporting tasks. All successful applicants complete safeguarding and employment checks.

What is the application and Interview process like?

The selection process includes a written application, a short subject focused task, and a professional conversation with members of the UKAT team. This helps us understand each applicant’s suitability and aspirations.
