Flexibility offers greater choices for students and within the curriculum there is a rigorous focus on embedding and enhancing literacy and numeracy skills.

Curriculum Approach

The Academy has developed an academic approach with some flexibility tailored towards the more rigorous vocational courses. This approach enables us to focus on the needs of all students and maximises progression across the Academy. Learning takes place through the subjects within the Mini Schools, with dedicated staff providing wrap around support. There is a key focus on developing extended writing skills which undoubtedly maximises students’ achievements across all subject areas in the curriculum.

Leadership and World Cultures are new UKAT bespoke skills-based programme available to all new Year 7/8/9 students with a robust menu offer of practical project-based learning activities.

A key component of the core curriculum offer is the Personal and Professional Development Programme (PPD) for Year 7/8/9 students and delivered to Year 10 and 11 through their bespoke PT sessions. This programme aims to address barriers to learning and raises aspirations. PPD modules include personal effectiveness, community enrichment, business and enterprise, careers, leisure, health, wellbeing and spirituality.

Each student has a Personal Tutor with whom he/she meets regularly during the Academy working day.

The teaching strategies adopted by the Academy enable the curriculum to be organised for students to study and learn within a variety of settings and situations. Groups are set by ability in core subjects. In other subjects, students follow a range of different pathways according to their range of abilities.

Arranged in five Mini Schools, Darwin, Turing, Rutherford, Woolf and Keynes, the curriculum is divided into three phases of learning.

The Academy offers a wide range of courses to engage higher-attaining students and additionally supports those students who might experience difficulties with learning.

Students leave Brompton Academy with good qualifications and a strong sense of direction and purpose.
