UKAT Sixth Form Dress Code

As a member of the UKAT community, you are no longer required to wear a prescribed branded uniform. However, the dress code outlined below is designed to always promote a positive and responsible image of the UKAT Sixth Form, whilst on site or traveling to/from academy sites.

Sleeved shirt	Must have a collar. Must be worn at all times if not wearing a roll neck/ turtleneck jumper. No polo shirts are permitted.		X

Footwear Expectations

It is expected that students wear shoes which are polishable. The following styles of footwear are not acceptable. Where students are in breach of this, they will be asked to go home and change before returning.

Trainers/canvas style
Flip flops/sliders
Work like boots e.g. Timberland/Caterpillar
Ugg style boots

Trainers are only permitted when students are participating in practical lessons, as outlined in the practical subjects’ dress code below.

Jewellery Expectations

The UKAT Sixth Form Team appreciate that with the removal of wearing the academy uniform, students may wish to express themselves, and for some, piercings are a method of doing so. However, we also understand the risks associated with some piercings and the potential to cause accidental injury in a busy academy environment.

Therefore, no more than four studs should be worn in each ear with no hanging/hoops or piercing accessories used. Students are permitted to have one nose stud which cannot protrude the skin.

Hair Expectations

As with jewellery, we accept that students wish to express themselves. However, we still must ensure that high expectations are upheld by Sixth Form students and role modelled to younger students across the two academies. Therefore, as a privilege within the UKAT Sixth Form subtle highlights/low lights are permitted and we ask that natural hair colours are adhered to for the majority of a student’s hair.

At no time is it acceptable to have extreme hair styles such as a Mohican or shaved lines. We also do not permit the wearing of durags, caps, beanies, or any other head coverings except in extreme sun/heat when caps will be permitted.

Physical Education, Performing Arts and Dance

It is always expected that students adhere to the UKAT Sixth Form dress code, including those specific to their individual disciplines.

All disciplines will have a branded UKAT Sixth Form t-shirt, which students should wear only on days when they are doing practical lessons. This should be worn with dark coloured sports trousers, shorts, skorts or other appropriate clothing outlined by the Subject Leader for the relevant Department.

Soccer Elite students are required to wear the formal UKAT Sixth Form dress code on days when practical activities are not taking place.

All the above are only permitted to wear their kit to and from the academy sites on days when practical lessons are taking place.

Other Relevant Information Pertinent to Dress Code

All clothing worn within the dress code should be free of large logos, slogans or images.
Tattoos should not be visible.
Outdoor clothing: jackets, scarves and hats should not be worn around the academy sites.
Sweatshirts/hoodies are not permitted to be worn at any time, including entering and exiting either academy sites.
Transgender students may dress consistently with their gender presentation.
Students wishing to wear Islamic dress should wear simple styled silhouette Jilbab and must still wear a formal jacket with this.

It is beyond the scope of the policy to provide guidance on every eventuality. In the event of queries, the final decision of what is deemed appropriate, day to day, falls with the UKAT Sixth Form Team or Senior Leadership Team at either academy site. If your attire is not appropriate you will be asked to adjust your choice of dress accordingly. In extenuating circumstances, you may be asked to go home to change and return promptly. There are sanctions in place for such situations, as with the rest of the academy community. Your access to learning at the UKAT Sixth Form is dependent on your compliance with the expectations clearly explained.

All UKAT Sixth Form students will be issued with a lanyard and identity card which must always be worn and visible whilst on either academy site. If for any reason you arrive at either hub site and you do not have your lanyard, you must sign in at one of the main Reception’s or sign in with the UKAT Sixth Form Team to receive a temporary lanyard on confirmation of your ID. This must then be returned on exiting the academy sites. Persistent offenders will be subject to sanctions and asked to go home and get their lanyard. Students must catch up on missed learning in their own time.
