Curriculum Intent

The core vision of Brompton Academy, which constitute its curricular goals, are to:

  • Create a strong sense of purpose and direction for students, helping provide internal motivation required to achieve highly

  • Offer student leadership skills and opportunities to develop these, contributing to developing confidence and aspiration

  • Creating a strong sense of belonging and identity

Our curriculum fosters leadership in our students by providing opportunities to show leadership qualities, this may be taking an active role in group work, making relevant contributions in discussions, or developing independence.  Leadership requires many diverse skills, so curriculum time is provided in Year 7/8 to explicitly identify, practice, and develop those skills in a supportive learning environment.  The curriculum at Brompton Academy teaches leadership to build confidence and aspiration in our students.

The curriculum at Brompton Academy provides our students with a sense of purpose by offering a clearly sequenced curriculum that ensures appropriate challenge over time.  Teachers, who have a passion for their subjects, ensure learning is engaging and driven by success with equal measures of support and challenge.  Careers guidance is woven through the curriculum to make sure that students have the internal motivation and aspiration to have a clear sense of purpose.

Our students have an imaginative and engaging curriculum that gives them a sense of belonging with a common educational purpose.  To make sure our students understand how they belong to not only Brompton Academy but a wide, global community Year 7/8/9 study World Cultures where linguistic and cultural knowledge are taught, building cultural capacity, and ensuring students become global citizens of the future.  Higher up the school modern foreign languages are taught to ensure clear progression and opportunity.

The curriculum at Brompton Academy is designed to engage, motivate, and inspire.  We aim to create a stimulating educational experience aimed at developing a passion for learning alongside the knowledge, skills and cultural capacity students need to succeed in life.  To celebrate success, we always look to showcase the exceptional talents and abilities of our young people, and we believe such opportunities greatly enhance our students’ enjoyment of school.

Our curriculum is structured to provide opportunities that maximise the potential of the diverse needs of our pupils.  We have a Grammar Stream that provides challenge, motivation, and encouragement; however, all lessons are taught to students of similar ability with regular opportunities for students to excel.

At Key Stage 3, we have a broad and engaging curriculum that focuses on academic subjects but also provides access to a range of subjects from the creative and performing Arts to Media Studies and Sport.  In Year 7/8 we provide opportunities to study Leadership. In Year 7/8/9 students study the new World Cultures course and the Personal & Professional Development programme.  As students head towards the end of Key Stage 3 the core subjects remain central and prepare for study at Key Stage 4.  Opportunities further widen with the study of the English Baccalaureate subjects of History, Geography, and a Modern Foreign Language.  The study of Ethics, Personal & Professional Development, the Arts, Information Technology and Media Studies provide variety and choice for their next stage.

At Key Stage 4 the curriculum provides appropriate pathways to support student choice, aspiration, and purpose.  The curriculum offers a wide range of possible options to maximise potential and achieve future success.  We get to know our students well so we can provide high quality support whilst remaining ambitious for the academic outcomes for all students.

To ensure the curriculum remains broad, Ethics remains part of the timetable and Personal and Professional Development is delivered via PT sessions for Year 10/11.  We want to enable our students to be successful and move onto the next stage of their lives, regardless of their start points.  We want our students to be happy and successful in their chosen pathways and to make a positive contribution to the world.  Ultimately, through the journey that our curriculum provides students will become leaders, have a clear purpose, and belong to the modern global environment.

The hugely successful University of Kent Academies Trust Sixth Form provides diverse opportunities for students.
