Photography (Woolf Mini School) 2017/2018

Phase Two - 3 Year GCSE Photography:

The Year 9 to 11 students are studying the AQA GCSE in Photography in which they will complete four projects.

Year One

Term one: Introduction to the course such as language, use of cameras and introduction to Photoshop and practical  
                 Photography techniques.

Term two: Start of project one Colour & Close up.

Term three: Composition and focus.

Term four: Manipulation skills using Photoshop.

Term five: Improving project and presentation of work.

Term six: Start of Project two - Multiple Images looking at combining images together.

Year Two

Term one: Experimentation with mixed media.

Term two: Introduction of animation. 

Term three: Project three - Textures.

Term four: Exploring macro photography.

Term five: Creative ways to display imagery and presentation skills

Term six: Start of project four Colour & Close up.

Year Three

Term one: Use of colour manipulation in photography for effect.

Term two: Outside shoot techniques.

Term three: Preparation for the Externally Set Task (Exam).

Term four: Experimentation with media for the examination.

Term five: Sit the 10 hour practical examination and complete all coursework projects

Term six: Go on study leave.

Together the coursework is 60% of the course. The examination is 40% of the course.

Phase Three - AS Photography Year 12/13

The AS Photography students are studying the AQA Level 3 GCE AS in Photography. During this year they will cover 2 units, with a coursework portfolio worth 60% and an Externally Set Assignment worth 40%. Unit 1 is a Coursework Portfolio. Unit 2 is an Externally Set Assignment where they receive a set of 5 questions from the exam board which they must choose one to respond to. They will also have a 10 hour exam at the end of this unit to produce a final outcome.

Phase Three - A-Level Photography  Year 12/13 

The A2 Photography students are studying the AQA Level 3 GCE A2 in Photography, over two years. The first year is dedicated to building subject knowledge, skills and understanding. During the second year students complete Component 1 which is a  Personal Investigation on their chosen subject with a 3000 word written document to support the practical element. Component 2 is an Externally Set Assignment where students receive a set of 7 questions from the exam board and students must choose one to respond to. This unit culminates with a 15 hour exam to produce a final outcome. 

Year 1:

Working through a series of workshops, experiments and development of subject language to build skills, understanding and knowledge.

Year 2:

Term one: Research and analysis

Term two: Develop 2D outcome

Term three: Develop 3D Response. Externally Set Assignment

Term four: Externally Set Assignment

Term five: Prepare for exhibition of work
