Benik Afobe Inspires Young Footballers at BA

Brompton Academy enjoyed a surprise visit from Benik Afobe, a professional footballer who plays both as a striker for Stoke City in the Championship and the DR Congo national team.

Benik was in the area visiting his family before going back to pre-season at Stoke City, and was keen to visit the Academy and get involved in working with our students

In Personal Tutoring sessions across the Academy, he spoke about his career and the setbacks he overcame. He also offered advice to work hard whilst at school, and encouraged students to have high aspirations for the future.

He joined in with the Year 7 and 8 after school football tournament; showing his skills and goal scoring ability! Benik’s visit attracted over one hundred and twenty students to take part in the Phase One football tournament. This was the largest number of students participating in an after school sport to date!

Benik was absolutely great with our students and offered plenty of time to provide them with autographs and photo opportunities!

The students were buzzing as many had never met a top professional before face to face.

We are really hoping he will come back next year!

At Brompton Academy we focus on sport participation and offer as many sporting opportunities as possible.

These opportunities include thirteen after school clubs - on average once a week over the year, as well as, school fixtures, secondary school game competitions, visiting athletes to inspire our students, trips, University of Kent projects to name just a few!
