Singin' in the Rain Jr Performance

This term twenty-eight students from the Brompton Academy Performing Arts and Music Faculty students proudly presented four performances of Singin’ in the Rain Jr. to enthusiastic audiences. Featuring students from Year 7 to Year 13 the talented cast brought a touch of vintage Hollywood glamour to Gillingham!

Since last October, students and staff had been working together relentlessly after school to bring the wonderful script to life. Following auditions, the cast was set and the rehearsals began. Weeks later the set was delivered, the cast perfected their American accents and finishing touches were made to their costumes in readiness for the premier show on the 20th March.

With stunning songs, an incredible set and some outstanding performances, students, staff, parents and carers were dazzled by the show. We received some lovely feedback, and below are some comments from our Year 7 and 8 students after attending the matinee performances:

“My favourite part of the show was when all the characters were singing and dancing together, also when Kathy came out of the cake.”

“I thought the whole show was so good.”

“I liked all the main characters because they were funny, good at acting, singing and dancing. A real treat.”

“When the red umbrellas came out I was really surprised! The choreography was so good.”

A Year 8 student wrote the following:

“I walked into a beautiful setting of the 1920’s era. Bright lights shining from the famous Singin’ in the Rain lamp post and the piano set with sheet music ready.

The excitement filled up inside me as I waited to be seated and the show to begin. Suddenly the lights changed and lively Charleston music introduced us to the beginning of the show.”

The Performing Arts Faculty would like to thank parents and carers of all the students involved for supporting the production and also the many staff involved for their help and hard work.

It must also be noted that the cast of students behaved impeccably and that their energy, enthusiasm and professionalism was very much appreciated by all involved.

Information about the Summer Showcase will follow soon!
