Music (Woolf Mini School) 2016/2017

Music Phase One

Music is taught for a 12 week Carousel across the Performing Arts. Students will study 6 lessons in each unit.

Year 7

Unit 1  - African drumming and African story telling through song (culture, rhythm and composition)

Unit 2 - Musical Theatre - book musicals - Matilda and Shrek (singing, performing, listening, appraising, keyboard/instrumental skills)

Unit 3 - Film Music - Foley table, silent film, sound effects (Composition, performance, ICT)

Unit 4 - Whole Class Performance "All the Small Things" Blink 182 (pop/sub-culture, instrument skills, performing for camera, evaluation peer feedback)

Year 8 

Unit 1 - Samba  - Rhythm - Whole class composition (rhythm, whole class, small groups)

Unit 2 - Musical Theatre - The "Mega Musical" -Les Miserables, We will Rock You, Phantom of the Opera (singing, performing, listening, appraising, keyboard/instrumental skills)

Unit 3 - ICT Sampling - Gangnam Style  (Music tech/ICT, media, craze-culture, composition lead to BTEC)

Unit 4 - In At the Deep End (Independence, rehearsal, BTEC influenced, Instrumental skills, performance) 

Phase Two BTEC Music (Year 9,10 and 11)

Term one: Planning and Developing a Music Product

Term two: Planning and Developing a Music Product

Term three: Exploring Music Composition

Term four:  Managing a Music Product

Term five: The Final Composition

Term six: Performance Showcases

 

Phase Three Music

Rock School Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma

Rock School:  6 units across two years.

Years 1 and 2 Across all terms:

Improving instrumental performance (15)

Rehearsal skills and live music performance (core 30 credits

Year 1

Term 1/2 - As above plus auditioning for music (15 credits)

Terms 3/4- Evolution of the record industry (5 credits)

Improving instrumental performance. 

Rehearsal skills and live music performance (core).

Terms 5/6 Evolution of the record industry (5 credits)

Year 2
