Identify the Mystery Book!

How much can you tell about a book from a few scraps of information?

We shred a retired book and student try to identify it. Our winner Connor spotted Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief from just a few words in our shredded book challenge. He looks pretty happy with his mystery prize!

Strictly Come Reading

Strictly Come Reading is certainly becoming a Brompton Academy tradition! This year was dominated by Years 7 and 8 who really pushed their comfort zone and performed some fabulous prose and poetry. Our winner Lucy performed a dazzling version of ‘Please Mrs Butler’ by Allan Ahlberg, with second place to Ritchie and Callum with a very creditable third place.

The event was a wonderful combination of experienced polished performers and brave new students making their first steps towards public speaking, as well as cheesey judges giving their feedback and scores.

Competitors left the hall planning their entries for 2017!

Strictly Come Poetry

Building on the success of our annual Strictly Come Reading competition, we launched our inaugural Strictly Come Poetry Event! Students in our Elliot Speech and Language Unit worked with Speech and Language Therapists on their choice of poem to give a reading to an enthusiastic audience!

With sequins and medals glittering in the spotlights, the students gave some amazing performances. Our highly qualified panel of judges included three S.A.L.T.s and a SENCO who delivered insightful feedback and terrible puns!

It was very clear to see the boost to speech and delivery as well as confidence and self- esteem in this fun-filled competition. The response of both performers and audience was fantastic, and students have requested it become an annual event!

Armistice Day 2016

Students and staff like to take a moment to reflect on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. In the libary we decided to extend the philosophy and use some damaged books to make something beautiful. We combined old pages, watercolours and pencils to create some book art in memory.

If I were a peculiar child...

We are big fans of the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children Trilogy, so when the film was launched, we could not resist running a competition. Our students wrote about what their peculiarity would be if they had one, and we saw some stunning entries!

The Hogwarts Challenge!

Everyone loves magic, and everyone enjoys a challenge. Students and staff were especially selected by the Sorting Hat to represent their team in the Hogwarts Challenge. The four teams

  • Gryffindor
  • Slytherin
  • Huffelpuff
  • Ravenclaw

battled to show their superior knowledge of JK Rowling's iconic series.

Ms Perkin acted as our Head QuizWitch and with Ravelclaw were the proud winners, despite a determined assault by Griffyndor as well as the high point of Mr Love's impersonation of Hagrid!

A rematch is demanded!

Love those Graphic Novels

Lots of students are big fans of graphic novels, so what better tribute than to create one! Students designed a cover concept and a sample page or two and created some 'Marvel'ous results! Charlotte, Dominic and Jack were our overall winners!IMG_0382marvel onesie prizedominic page 2

Zombie Apocalypse Research Plan

We think books are important in the library - but they could be lifesavers in the event of a zombie apocalypse! With no news on the radio, TV or internet, books would be the key source of survival information. Our students used their initiative to plan to survive!

Irresistible

Irresistible is music

Like a piano

Irresistible is chocolate

Sweet, sweet chocolate

Irresistible is the sun shining

On the beach.

Irresistible tastes like success

Irresistible looks like chocolate

Irresistible feels just like silk

Irresistible sounds like a sweet symphony

Irresistible is anything that is irresistible.

Irresistible

We are so irresistible

We are undeniable

No-one can tell us who is right or wrong

It’s so long

This is not a song, this is a poem

It’s a tense atmosphere

Earth is sphere

Cube is three dimensional

Square is two dimensional

Irresistible

Can we truly describe the irresistible?

To each it would be different.

Melt in the mouth smooth and creamy chocolate

or

An orchard full of the fresh bite of an apple.

Puppies, kittens, hamsters, sleep and books,

are all things that make us take a second look.

The urge to resist the irresistible should never be indulged.

So the big question is: do you answer yes or no?

Miss Grimes, Miss Holland, Eloise, Olivia, Emily, Jade

Irresistible

Looks like: mountain of whipped cream, a white fluffy cloud, fairies, new shoes, hills flowers and the colour purple. Snowing

Sounds like: an elephant’s ultrasound, a bald eagle calling, battlegrounds, Mozart, colourful sounds and summer.

Tastes like: Pizza, chicken, creamy chocolate, skittles, Creme Brulee, Eton Mess.

Feels like: could 9, fluffy fur, soft fleece, warm bed.

This is what

You can’t stop

When you feel

It’s all you’ve got.

You’re drawn to it

like a moth to a flame

You jump for joy

When you hear its name.

You feel so strong

like its strong sweet taste

but can be dangerous

like a poison base

You like so much

You feel so tuff

It’s irresistible stuff
